Asperger’s Testing
Asperger’s Syndrome was originally viewed as a distinct diagnosis, but more recently was classified under the general umbrella diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Asperger’s Syndrome is believed to be a mild form of classic autism with an absence of significant language delays. Individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome are viewed as more interactive with others, but still socially awkward, not understanding conventional social rules or showing a lack of empathy. Variability with eye contact and not understanding the use of gestures or sarcasm is also common. Individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome are believed to have relatively strong language skills, but use language in different ways. They also may engage in specific, repetitive body movements. Further, they typically have relatively strong cognitive or intellectual skills similar to individuals with “high functioning autism.” If you are concerned about differences in you or your child’s language, speech, behavior, motor skills or social skills when compared to other children or adults, Asperger’s testing could be the solution for you.
